Controller

Seven Stars Bakery is looking for a Controller to join our operations support team.

This is a full-time, exempt position based primarily in our Providence office, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid work schedule once the employee has fully settled into the role and demonstrated comfort with responsibilities and team workflows.

Job Summary

The Controller is responsible for leading the financial operations of the organization across retail café units and wholesale bakery production. This role oversees accounting, financial reporting, payroll in both union and non-union environments, and the integrity of multi-location inventory and POS systems.

Beyond operational oversight, the Controller serves as a strategic financial partner to senior leadership. The role actively manages banking relationships, cash flow forecasting, and lending compliance, ensuring the company maintains strong financial positioning and liquidity to support growth. The Controller partners with Operations to analyze pricing strategy and menu engineering, evaluating product mix, contribution margins, labor impact, and cost trends to protect and improve profitability across retail and wholesale channels.

This position also supports long-term growth initiatives by providing financial modeling for new café openings, capital investments, production expansion, and market development opportunities. Through disciplined internal controls, margin analysis, and forward-looking financial planning, the Controller helps drive sustainable growth while preserving the financial health and operational excellence of the organization.

About the Company & Why This Role Matters

Seven Stars Bakery is a mission-driven artisan bakery operating both retail cafés and a wholesale production facility. We are committed to quality, consistency, and meaningful community connection. Our continued success depends on strong operational discipline, thoughtful growth, and sound financial stewardship.

The Controller plays a critical leadership role in protecting the financial health of the organization while supporting operational excellence across all business units. In a rising wage and cost environment, this position safeguards margins through disciplined cost analysis, proactive labor modeling, and careful monitoring of production yields. The Controller helps prevent salary compression ripple effects, supports fair and compliant payroll practices in both union and non-union environments, and provides accurate, data-driven insight for CBA negotiations and wage planning.

As the company grows, this role strengthens internal controls, enhances financial visibility, and ensures that expansion, pricing strategy, and capital investments are grounded in clear financial analysis. The Controller is not only responsible for accurate reporting — but for equipping leadership with the financial intelligence needed to make confident, sustainable decisions that protect our people, our product, and our long-term growth.
